Recently My family and I were flying back from Texas through a Tropical Storm. The Day of our travel was booked months in advance and we didn’t know the storm was coming. Most of the flight was smooth sailing but as we came closer to our home state of Alabama, a tropical storm was coming up from the south. The pilot told everyone to buckle up because the flight would become bumpy. I have flown several times before and I am aware of the many air pockets that a plane hits that will cause a few dips and bumps along the way. Usually I’m not too scared about it, but this time as the plane got closer to our destination, I got a little scared. My daughter was sitting in front of me and she was getting sick due to the bumpy ride. The rain came down and as we got closer to the ground all you could see was clouds. The clouds were thick and I wondered how the pilot would find his way to land without being able to see the runway. Yes I know that they have instruments but pilots need to see the runway at least.
Then I thought about what the Bible said about Jesus, calming the wind and sea. I know that Jesus is the Master of the Wind, Storms, Sea, Rain and our Life. He is able to take care of us despite what we are going through. Matthew 8 says:23-27- And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep
And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
Then I realized that God could protect me through the storm and he could help the pilot land the plane. After praying for God’s guiding hand upon the pilot and plane, I started singing to myself, Master of the Wind. Here are the lyrics.
My boat of life sails on a troubled sea
Whenever there’s a wind in my sail.
But I have a friend who watches over me
When the breeze turns into a gale.
I know the Master of the wind.
I know the Maker of the rain.
He can calm a storm, make the sun shine again.
I know the Master of the wind.
Sometimes I soar like an eagle through the sky
Above the peaks my soul can be found.
An unexpected storm may drive me from the heights
Brings me low, but never brings me down.
My favorite verse is Psalm 91:1- He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
