The Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Seed of David, will restore his kingdom on this earth. In Matthew 1 we learn about the genealogy of Jesus and how he was the descendant of King David. In Luke 1:31-33, Mary was told that she would bring forth a son and that he would reign over the house of Jacob forever. The text reads, “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”
In Jesus ancestry line, we know that Jesus was a descendant of Abraham, Jacob and later David. Matthew Chapter 1 says, “Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob.” We know that God changed Jacob’s name to Israel (Genesis 32:28). This is why Israel is considered the Holy land of Christ. We know that this land was promised to the children of God when they escaped Pharoah and the land of Egypt (Exodus 3:8).
The prophet Daniel saw visions regarding the Lord’s kingdom in the last days. Daniel 7:13,14 says, “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
When Jesus was born, the Scribes and Pharisees, the religious leaders were willing to have a king if that did not involve repentance and a change of heart. Actually they were ungodly and wicked; they were Jews outwardly but not inwardly. When Jesus pressed continually the command to repent and denounced their hypocrisy, they began to hate Him and rejected him as the Saviour. They began to seek council to destroy him (Matthew 12:14). They led him to Pilate to be judged and then condemned to die. Pilate asked him if he was the King of Jews. Jesus said that now his kingdom was not of this world, meaning that it would soon be. John 18:36, “Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” Matthew 6:10 says that the Lord’s kingdom is in Heaven but will one day be on this earth. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
God tells us through his word in Revelation 20:4 that the “saints” or the children of God will reign with Christ for a thousand years. In Daniel 7:18,22, the Bible says, “But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever. Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.”
God tells us that we, as saints, should look for his return and to prepare our hearts and minds to remain in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). 1 Corinthians 6:2 says,”Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?” 2 Peter 1:10,11 says, “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
To prepare our hearts and minds for his return, we should practice godliness, and to crucify our flesh, by living righteously. Titus 2:12,13 says, “Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” 1 Timothy 6:11,12 says, “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
Revelation 11:15- And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Daniel 7:26,27- But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
Obadiah 1:15,17- For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Zephaniah 3:9-For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.
Zephaniah 3:17,19-The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.
