There are so many times when I have fought against my own urge to hold grudges against others. It is difficult to forgive others that have wronged us but we must forgive others. Matthew 6:15 says, “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” God’s mercy is everlasting and unending but you must put off hate and all other forms of unrighteousness, such as: whispers, backbiters, unmerciful, despiteful, deceit, envy (Romans 1).
If you carry un-forgiveness in your heart, you carry evil in your life. To be truly like the Lord God Almighty, we must learn to love others the way he loves us. Your love needs to be unconditional and without them loving us back. Jesus said cast all your cares upon him because he cares for us. He knows how hard it is to live on this earth, and even though he was despised and rejected by men, crucified and spit on by men, he forgave them and loves them. He is only waiting for us to come to him in repentance.
If you want to be like Christ, then you need to practice his characteristics. Galatians 5:22,23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Try praying for these qualities and the Lord will help you. 1 John 2:11 says, “he that hateth his brother is in darkness.” That isn’t a place you want to be! You must have forgiveness in your heart. Learn to love others that hate or despise you. When you do forgive someone, it gives you peace in your life.
